Graveside services for Harold Jean Tanner, 77, of Van, are scheduled for 11:15 a.m., Thursday, March 24, 2016, at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, with Brother Steve Glosup officiating.

Mr. Tanner died March 20, 2016, in Grand Saline.

He was born Jan. 13, 1939, in Odem, to Adam Fontenot and Rosalie Self.

He retired after 24 years of military service in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. Harold is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the American Legion and also the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association.

He is preceded in death by his parents and adopted parents, Leonard and Mildred Tanner.

He is survived by his wife, Mady Tanner; son, Harry and Tonya Fontenot; daughter, Brigitte and Jerry Preston; grandchildren, Natasha, Bryan, Brionna and Alia; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, James Thomas Fontenot Tanner and wife, Jane.
