Joann Sauseda

1942-2016

With loved ones by her side, Joann Bauner Sauseda, of Grand Saline, died March 25, 2016, at Hospice of East Texas.

Mrs. Sauseda was born Sept. 14, 1942, and her parents were the late Otto and Rosalie Bauner of Savannah, Ga.

She is survived by the love of her life, Rudy Sauseda of Grand Saline; son and daughter in law, Chance and Shari Sauseda of Grand Saline; son, Tate Morrison of Lake Fork; daughter and son in law, RoseAnne and Pat Anderson of Rockwall; five grandchildren, Kacie, Duke, Callie, Ashton and Savannah; and great-grandchildren, Easton, Addison and Jaxon.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Duke Morrison who passed away 38 years ago.

She and Rudy married on June 24, 1968, and together with Chance, moved to Grand Saline in 1981.

She served as Operations Manager for a network of Dairy Queen Stores in the DFW area.  After retiring, she was President of the Grand Saline Chamber of Commerce for a number of years, where she worked hard on projects for the town she was so proud to call home.

She enjoyed helping organize many events including the Salt Festival and led the committee that helped fund the building of the town’s pavilion.  Her crowning achievement was organizing and hosting the visit of then Governor George W. Bush in 1998.  In typical Joann fashion, and to the delight of Governor Bush, she accidentally introduced him as the President of the United States.

She loved being involved, and she and Rudy opened a restaurant downtown, the Saline Café, which they operated for many years.  In the last five years, she also enjoyed her work immensely as a substitute teacher at Grand Saline Schools.

However, family and friends were her happiness.  She loved to cook and host holiday meals with more food than anyone could eat.  Her interests and hobbies included gardening, flea markets and antique stores, reading, hunting, pokeeno with her friends and any slot machine she could find.  She loved to travel and her favorite vacation was to any beach with her toes in the sand and a good book in her hands.

She was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.

A private memorial service for family and friends was held Saturday, April 2, 2016.

Donations may be sent to Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.
