Robert Ray Jones, 84, was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Edgewood to Leaborn V. and Lois Audrey Lay Jones. 

He died May 10, 2016, in Garland.

Robert graduated from Edgewood High School in 1949. He served his country during the Korean Conflict and his community, where he was on the Garland Police force for several years, leaving as a lieutenant in 1972.

He coached the Texans in the Garland Pee Wee Football league; owned and operated Bob Jones Auto Repair; and was a proud 50-plus year member of the Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leaborn and Audrey Lois; his daughter Christy Renee DeNigris; his sister and her husband Betty Jo and Kenneth Sims; his brother-in-law Billy Archer; and the mother of his children, Grace Elvadean.

Those left to remember him are his wife of nearly 38 years, Pat; his daughter, Pam Greene and her husband David of California; his daughter, Kay Buckholt of Garland; his step-daughter, Debbie Short and her husband Bill; and step-son, Don Arnold and his wife Kelli; sister, Margaret Rush and her husband Don; sister, Virginia Archer; brother, Gary Jones and his wife Pat; grandchildren, Melissa, Ethan, Jessica, Jerry, Christina, Andy and Haley; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He tried to always be a fair man, never losing his integrity.

A celebration of his life was held May 17 at Williams Memorial Chapel.

Graveside service was held May 17 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewood.
