Canton vet included on 12th Heroes Flight
Bob Moore
Local health enthusiast Bob Moore will be among those making the 12th Brookshire Grocery Co. Heroes Flight next week.
BGC will escort a group of seven World War II and 24 Korean War veterans to Washington, D.C., May 30 through June 1.
BGC provides the Heroes Flight at no cost to those selected to recognize WWII and Korean War veterans for their service and sacrifices. While in the nation’s capital, the veterans are able to visit numerous memorials, including those built in their honor. Several BGC employees will accompany the group as guardians.
Moore served in the Army from August 1954 to July 1956. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., Fort Sheridan, Ill., and in the headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, where he served in the Far East Quartermaster Operations as NCO in charge of efficiency program. He was a corporal in the Pacific Theatre.
In addition to visiting the WWII and Korean War memorials, the group will also be led on a guided tour of the U.S. Capitol by Congressman Louie Gohmert. The veterans will also get to participate in the Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. Other points of interest will include the Air and Space Museum, along with the U.S. Marines, Navy, Air Force, Lincoln, Vietnam, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Martin Luther King Jr. memorials.
BGC has taken more than 330 veterans to Washington, D.C, since establishing the Heroes Flight program in 2010. Veterans from Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas have participated in the 11 previous trips.
