Duke’s brings the craft movement to Van Zandt County

When it comes to great food, service and the largest selection of Texas Craft Beer and Wine in Van Zandt County, you can’t beat Duke’s Burgers & Sports Co., located at the northeast corner of Hwy. 64 and I-20 in Canton.

Duke’s Burgers & Sports Co. is the latest business venture created by owner and company President Joe Zoubi. 

Duke’s Travel Plaza opened in May 2011 and includes Taco Casa and Duke’s BBQ.  In July 2014, Zoubi opened The Beef Jerky Outlet followed by SweetFrog Premium Frozen Yogurt in July 2015.

Zoubi said he always had plans to open a world-class gourmet burger restaurant in Van Zandt County so he and his team launched Duke’s Burgers & Sports Co. which opened in December 2015. The concept was executed by Zoubi’s son Rami who serves as the company’s vice president and general counsel.

“We came up with the idea for a burger joint and sports bar after realizing that many towns in East Texas don’t have a good place to watch big sporting events and enjoy a high quality burger,” Rami said.  “When I first heard the idea, I thought it was brilliant. It is rare to find a sports bar and grill that emphasizes high quality food using locally-sourced ingredients. Our goal is to provide the best of both worlds right here in Van Zandt County.”

Rami was born and raised in Dallas and is a graduate of Texas A&M University-College Station. He earned a law degree at SMU’s Dedman School of Law.

Rami practiced law for four years as a corporate labor and employment attorney in Raleigh, N.C., and in Austin before joining the family business in early 2015. He said his top priority was to expand the Duke’s brand in Van Zandt County and beyond – starting with Duke’s Burgers.
