Hiking trails and walking paths

Walking briskly on a walking path has been an almost daily occurrence for the past 10 years. When in town you can probably see me before 8 a.m., seven days a week at Cherry Creek Park on the walking path. Then I’m off and on my way to do what I do.

Today we are going to talk about hiking trails. In fact, I am going to critique a new trail in Canton at New City Lake. The publisher of the Canton Herald recognizes that I am an expert in walking and he wanted my expert opinion. I took this assignment as a compliment until I researched the definition of “expert.” X is the symbol of an unknown and a spurt is a drip under pressure. So here is what I think about the Mill Creek Lake Park Nature Trail.

The city of Canton received a grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife of $180,000 along with a cash donation from the Ben Wheeler Bank of over $20,000. They agreed to the contracts and labor and coughed up the rest for a total cost of about $222,000. Forget the economic, tourism, health and wellness benefits, it was a brilliant way to protect the future of the city water system.
