Services for Billy Dan Singleton were held Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Haven of Memories in Canton.

He was born in Canton on March 15, 1936, to parents Joe Frank Singleton and Kassie Singleton.

He passed away on March 18, 2017, in Tyler.

He was raised in Canton and attended Canton schools. He was employed by the Murrey Motor Company in Wills Point for some 38 years.

He lived a full life even though he faced many obstacles. His parents worked hard for him to have the medical care and education available to him. His father preceded him in 1979. He worked for Murrey Motors for some 38 years and grew to have a second family there. He worked for Roland Murrey for many years and after Roland’s death continued working with his second family for Mark Murrey until his retirement.

During retirement, he enjoyed going to First Monday searching for treasures, riding around in his pickup and spending time with his family, including his many nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed spending weekends in his recliner watching western movies with his mother. He faithfully and lovingly cared for his mother until her death. Many other people helped him along the way and earned a special place in his heart, including his friend Chester Hall.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Mike Simmons.

He is survived by two sisters, Emma Lee Simmons of Canton and Joann Deckard of Friendswood. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Dianne and Joe Rivera, Brenda Simmons, Eddie and Thao Deckard, Tommy and Pam Simmons, and Frank and Brenda Simmons, 11 great nieces and nephews, 13 great-great nieces and nephews; and two great-great-great nieces.
