Spring Clean Up on horizon

A good portion of the March 21 Canton city council meeting swirled around annexing water and sewer line services into the Silver Spur Resort, located at 13785 Highway 19. The resort is not in the Canton city limits.

The item is frequently on the council’s agenda, with council debating the item extensively over a number of months.

The proposed agreement with Silver Spur Resort would entail the city reimbursing up to 50 percent of certified costs (total costs actually incurred by the owner in construction of the lines); and reimbursement would only be after annexation into the city. The city would have to bring the area in to a Canton CCN (certificate of convenience and necessity.)

The Silver Spur resort offers is an area offering a bed and breakfast spot, camping and “glamping,” grounds, and RV hookups.

The council unanimously approved the annexation agreement, agreeing to reimbursing the resort only after annexation into the city.

Spring Clean Up

City Manager Lonny Cluck presented information to the council concerning the Spring clean-up event.

“Spring clean-up will be held April 20-22. The weekly garbage service includes pickup of as many as 10 items (bags of household garbage or leaves) and limbs that are tied in bundles less than 50 pounds and under 4 feet in length. One large item may be picked up by a separate truck each week. Items will need to be placed curbside by 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 19,” said Cluck.

Cluck also mentioned that citizens need to “be patient,” regarding item pickup.
