Eaglettes wrap up first round of district play

Canton’s Brooke Arnold tore the cover of the softball during the past week, going a combined 5/9 with two doubles, 7 RBI and two runs scored in games against Mabank and Van.
The Canton Eaglettes continued their trek through District 13-4A play last week, taking on Mabank and Van to reach the halfway of district play. Canton finished its week with a 1-1 record overall, retaining a first-place tie with chief rival Van.
Canton dominated the Mabank Lady Panthers March 28, plating seven runs in the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh in a 13-2 road win.
Shelby Vestal recorded the win for Canton, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out eight in a complete game effort.
Offensively, Kylie Floyd helped lead the way for the Eaglettes by going 3/4 with a double, a home run, 5 RBI and three runs scored.
Other offensive leaders included Brooke Arnold going 2/5 with a double, 4 RBI, and a run scored, Reagan Busby going 3/5 with a triple and two runs scored, Grayson Reid going 2/4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored, Mattie Tullos going 1/3 with an RBI and a run scored, and Baylee Sanders going 1/4 with a triple and a run scored.
