A thousand waves a day

CPD Officer Forrest is on patrol

Editor’s Note: CPD was gracious enough to allow me to tag along with an officer for the day, to find out what being a law enforcement officer is really like.

Whether it’s the adrenaline rush of the unexpected call for help or the sense of safety that an officer can provide, Canton Police Department Officer Jered Forrest said he loves his job.

“You never know what is going to happen next in this line of work. I don’t get bored as a police officer because you never know what to expect. It is definitely not an 8 to 5 job, and I love it.” said Officer Forrest.

Officer Forrest is a 2006 graduate of Canton High School. He grew up in the Whitton area and said that he receives a “thousand waves a day,” from people in the community and is thankful for the Canton residents.

“I grew up here. I know these streets and the crime areas. But, what I am thankful for is the community that Canton has and how much they support law enforcement, especially in light of the problems that law enforcement officers had months ago. To have that support is great. People come shake our hands and thank us for our work if we are out eating or if they see us out. There are a lot of polite citizens in Canton and it is my honor to help keep their neighborhoods and city safe.”
