Tullos speaks to TEA Party forum
Representatives from Van Zandt County, the East Texas region and the state of Texas participated in a panel discussion on a variety of education related topics April 10.
The education forum, sponsored by the Canton/Edom TEA Party, took place in the Canton Elementary School Cafetorium.
Dr. Dwayne Collins, founder and director of the Canton/Edom Tea Party, served as the moderator as he welcomed those in attendance.
Each member of the panel opened the discussion by giving an opening statement on what they believed was the major problem in education today.
Jay Tullos, Canton ISD Superintendent
“One of the main things that is affecting us in education today is the involvement of our federal government,” emphasized Tullos. “I do not believe they should be involved like they are right now. Also, our politicians in Austin along with the federal government need to give local control back to our education system. We have an elected board of trustees and we need to let them make the decisions, not the politicians.”
