Master Gardener series to begin May 25
The Free State Master Gardener Library series titled plant propagation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday, May 25.
Plant propagation is the process used by gardeners to produce more plants from either a single plant or two parent plants. If a single plant is used then asexual propagation occurs. This type of propagation produces plants that resemble the parent plant.
The presentation will cover asexual and sexual propagation in East Texas plants. Sexual propagation will focus on parts of a flower, types of pollination, and different types of seeds. The class will briefly cover soils, seed dormancy, planting seeds, germination, damping off and how to transplant seedlings. Asexual propagation will focus on parts of a plant and briefly cover plant division, cuttings, and layering. Participants will be involved in the learning process with hands on experiences.
