VZC Commissioner Pct. 2 Virgil Melton welcomed guests to the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony Monday, May 29.
A remembrance ceremony was held to remember and honor those who had paid the ultimate price for their country- their lives.
Bro. Mark Moore of Lakeside Baptist Church of Canton opened with prayer and Cary Hilliard led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Spencer Pennington of Canton and Bennett Porter of Edgewood played " Taps" with echo.
Local dignitaries attended the service including Canton Mayor Lou Ann Everett, VZC Judge Kirkpatrick and wife Benegene, District Judge Teresa Drum, Grand Saline Mayor Casey Jordan with wife Cara and son Cruz, and Wills Point Mayor Mark Turner and wife Cathy, along with Major General James L. (Red) Brown and wife Jane.
Country Place Senior Living Tammi Lenamond and Julie Moorman provided coffee and doughnuts for visitors to enjoy before the program as they toured the VZC Veteran’s Memorial Visitors Center and Museum.
