Sistrunk named Explore contest winner

Haverly, Niell runners up

With over 100 entries submitted in the Van Zandt Newspapers Explore cover contest, DeAnna Sistrunk was named the Explore 2017 cover contest winner.

Sistrunk’s photo depicts a peaceful setting over a pond in Myrtle Springs in Van Zandt County.

The contest attracted a wide variety of photographs, from roadrunners catching a frog to serene landscapes.

The winning cover was chosen for its contrast in colors and lighting, the negative space available for use, quality of the photograph and the location of the photo.

Runners up were John Haverly with his submission of a windmill at sunset and Ricky Niell with a submission of cattle on his farm.
