Mr. and Mrs. David Norman will celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary on July 16, 1961.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman were married July 13, 1911 in their home near Mabank. Mrs. Norman is the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Fisher Tharp. She was born in 1895 in the same community where they were married. Mr. Norman was born in Missouri in 1892 and came to Texas 65 years ago. They have resided in Van Zandt County all their married life.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman are the parents of four children. Col. Roy Norman of Washington, D. D. Alvin and H. D. Norman of Canton and Mrs. O. B. Odell of Arlington. They also have eight grandchildren.
THIS and THAT: Pear blooms in July…Angus Travis reports that one of his trees had 4 blooms and several buds…He reports that his father, Allen Travis said he had never seen it in his lifetime.
Well say “Hats Off”, to Johnny Hopkins and the June term of the Grand Jury in recommending air conditioning for the court house…it could never be needed more…And we wouldn’t be surprised to see the current progressive County Court okay this very thing in the near future.
Last Rites: Services were held Saturday, July 8, for Fannie Peacock Coffey, at the Cold Springs Cemetery under direction of Eubank Funeral Home. Mrs. Coffey was born Sept. 6, 1875, in Mississippi. She passed away July 6 in Canton. A member of the Briley Town Methodist Church and was married Nov. 12, 1891. Survived by 4 sons, William Fred Peacock of Jacksonville, Charlie Peacock of Smithville, Roy Peacock of Dallas and Weldon Peacock of Canton and 11 great grandchildren.
