CISD proposes same tax rate, prepares for new year
School to begin Aug. 21
The Canton ISD Board of Trustees met Monday, July 17 to finalize preparations for the upcoming 2017-’18 school year.
Superintendent Jay Tullos remarked that projects around district campuses were wrapping up and near completion in anticipation of the first day of school set for Aug. 21.
According to Supt. Tullos, “painting has been completed in the high school gymnasium and in the classrooms at Canton Intermediate. Hallways were also painted and are near completion. Parking lots around the district have also received new striping. On July 5, Graffix was onsite at the high school painting the eagle in the high school gym.”
The board also wrapped up a few bookkeeping items such as approving the proposed budget for the upcoming school year. The budget has a general fund of $16,177,722; Food service fund, $753,326; and debt service of $3,059,894. According to Supt. Tullos, the district would see a slight change in the budget due to values of property and homes throughout the district from the April 29 tornadoes.
