Free State Back to School Jubilee set for Saturday

The third annual Free State Back to School Jubilee will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, and will offer something for the whole family.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Child Advocacy Center of Van Zandt County have joined together to provide all the families of Van Zandt County with a free family fun day.

The Jubilee will be held in the Canton Civic Center just off Hwy 64. Look for the big yellow banners.

The event will provide free backpacks and school supplies, free haircuts, physicals, and immunizations.

In addition, there will be carnival type of games, including three bounce houses, an indoor shooting gallery and much more.

addition to all these fun activities, there will be educational opportunities to learn about gardening and recycling projects presented by the Free State Master Gardeners Association.

4-H projects will be spotlighted during the event on the mainstage. New this year will be booths that provide free information on services for families and for all you anglers, we will also be having a casting/pitching contest with the assistance of one of our high school fishing teams.

There will also be an indoor shooting gallery to allow the youth to experience shooting sports.

Signups for the Food Preservation/Canning Contest and the Salsa Contest will begin receiving entries from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The Corn Hole sign-up will be from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by the homemade ice cream contest sign-up from noon to 1 p.m.

Judging of all events will follow their respective sign-up times. Cash prizes will be given in each of the competitive contests.

Entry forms and rules are available at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office, 235 East Groves Street in Canton.
