Powerlifters open season in Sulphur Springs

A small contingent of Canton lifters hit the road Jan. 12, opening the 2019 season at the Sulphur Springs Invitational Meet. Canton’s girls team placed 12th overall as a team at the event out of 25 competing schools while the boys team placed 16th overall out of 20 competing schools.

Individual girls results included:

-114 lb. weight class: Carla Perez, second place, 595 lbs. lifted

-148 lb. weight class: Sydney Ellis, 14th place, 490 lbs. lifted; Kelly Egan, 16th place, 465 lbs. lifted; Shelby Wycough, 19th place, 415 lbs. lifted; Gracie Ivey, 20th place, 380 lbs. lifted

Individual boys results included:

-220 lb. weight class: Alexander Harder, ninth, 1045 lbs. lifted

-SHW weight class: Cody Saffel, 10th place, 1025 lbs. lifted

Canton powerlifters will return to competition Jan. 26, hitting the road for the Mount Pleasant Invitational Meet.
