Ison appointed to fill Wiley’s term

Since the passing of Precinct 2 Constable C.B. Wiley on May 6, the county has held its breath concerning who would fill Wiley’s unexpired term. Constable Wiley was up for election in November. He had won the republican party primary against his challenger Jesse Ison.

After a lengthy executive session May 24, the commissioners voted 3-1 to appoint Ison to fill Wiley’s unexpired term.

Commissioner Virgil Melton Jr. made a motion to appoint Ison, with Commissioners Tim West and Bobby Chaney for the motion. Commissioner Pct. 1 Brandon Brown was against the motion.

But before the decision to appoint Ison to fill the term, citizens of VZC stood up and campaigned for the nomination of David Wiley and Anthony Katsoulas to fill the term. Both are serving as reserve deputies for Precinct 2. Both Wiley and Katsoulas spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting. David Wiley is the son of C. B. Wiley.
