VZC Library sees busy year

 

 

Following a presentation by Van Zandt County Librarian Susie Pulley, the VZC Commissioners Court approved the annual library report May 2.

VZC Pct. 2 Commissioner Virgil Melton Jr. presided over the meeting in the absence of VZC Judge Don Kirkpatrick, who was out of town at a judicial meeting.

K-9 Rico receives ballistic vest

Sheriff Dale Corbett and officers of the VZC Sheriff’s Department were present to witness the department’s K-9 Officer Rico receive a ballistic vest. The vest was donated by Creative Casting. The group raised money to purchase K-9 Rico a ballistic vest from Ray Allen Manufacturing. In the photo are Tammy and Mike Skelcher and Linda Colclasure of Creative Casting with Sheriff Corbett, Chief M. Bates and Lt. Burton and K-9 Officer Rico.

Children take imaginary trip to zoo

 

Children at Storytime went on an imaginary trip to the zoo with Mrs. Rhonda at the Van Zandt County Library. Mrs. Rhonda read "The Moose that Says Moooooooooo", by Jennifer Hamburg , "Pardon Said The Giraffe", by Colin West and "Elmer" by David McKee.

Afterward during craft time, the children made elephants using construction paper and party horns. Storytime is held at 10 a.m. every Friday morning at 317 First Monday Lane, Canton.

Canton Quilting Guild to meet April 16

 

The Canton Quilting Guild will meet April 16 at the Canton Senior Center. There will be a morning sewing session beginning about 9:30 a.m. Various craft projects will be presented during this time. The business meeting begins at 1 p.m.

The program this month will be "Easy Bargello" by Sara Parker of FABRICS 4 YOU fabric store. Ongoing donation projects and charitable contributions will be discussed and addressed.

Sharing completed projects by guild members during "Show and Tell" always provide inspirations for more beautiful quilts.

Last month's program was Lone Star Laser Company. Pre-cut quilt pattern pieces make quilting quick and easy. Kits of various styles meet individual tastes for every preference in quilting.

An evening guild meets at 5 p.m. For information on the quilt guild, contact 903-962-4365.

Rickey and Sue Baugh’s two children will honor them with a 50th wedding anniversary celebration from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday, April 14, at the Grand Lodge, Mill Creek Ranch Resort. Dale and Eva Baugh along with Amanda and Todd Burch would like to invite family and friends to attend this open house event located at 1880 N. Trade Days Blvd.
