Cooper in concert at Straw Hat dinner theater

The Myrtle Springs Alumni Straw Hat dinner theater will host a concert starring Barbara Cooper Aug. 29. “Barbara lives in Van Zandt County and is about the most talented female singer in our area with the same smooth voices as Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee and other successful country female singers. It is almost impossible to distinguish the difference between the songs rendered by Barbara and those whom she fashions and presents in her concerts,” concert official LaRea Miller remarked,

A variety of music, including country, Brenda Lee hits, gospel and pop, will be rendered by Cooper during the performance.

The concert and dinner will take place at the old school building in Myrtle Springs, located on VZCR 3447, just off Hwy, 64 in Myrtle Springs.

The alumni association will serve dinner beginning at 6 p.m.  The concert will follow.

Family remembers by giving to advocacy center

Derek Shane Hutson

Derek Shane Hutson died Oct. 17, 2011. He was 28.

Every year since, his family has gathered in his honor and hosted a fundraising dinner “in remembrance of his giving heart” to raise funds for the Van Zandt County Children's Advocacy Center.

“Unfortunately, due to a variety of circumstances, we will not be able to have the dinner this year,” Shane’s mother, Janet Hutson, said. “It is our hope that through this article we are bringing awareness and ask that if anyone would like to donate to the center they may do so by sending their donation directly to the center.”
