The Mighty Canton Band competed at the Classic on the Cane Marching Festival Oct. 31 in Natchitoches, La.

The contest had to become a standstill indoor contest due to the weather, with results being based upon music and visual performance, according to Band Director Mike Bartley.

The band won their class and received Outstanding Band, Outstanding Colorguard and Outstanding Percussion within their class. They also received first division trophies for the entire band, colorguard and percussion.

Russell said she and CJHS choir director Brenda Sharpe said they would like to thank the administration, teachers and parents for all their support.

“The students had many rehearsals to prep them to earn a spot in this prestigious group.  So, we are extremely proud of our students as well,” Russell said.
