The guest speaker was Sue Richards, travel agent, speaker, writer, and  storyteller.
“She is known among many of her admirers as “Sunshine Sue.” She has traveled most areas of the United States as well as many countries around the world. She doesn’t just see a place; she absorbs its culture, its country side, its history, and most of all, its people. Richards always makes an effort to meet, talk with and visit people wherever she goes, and she has made an exciting and growing variety of friends along the way. In her career as a travel agent, she plans exciting and intricate trips for her clients and often leads groups on their journeys. She sometimes travels alone, and she says some of her most memorable trips have been on her own,” said Study Club news.

Elephant fun at Storytime

Courtesy photos
Ms. Rhonda reads stories to children at Storytime at the VZC Library.

The theme for Storytime this week was elephants.  Ms. Rhonda read ‘Elmer’ by David McKee about a patchwork elephant that was laughed at by all the other elephants.  He cleverly colored himself with the juice of some berries so that he was grey like the other elephants.  When he joined the herd they were so serious it make him want to laugh so he lifted his trunk and shouted ‘Boo!’ which caused all the elephants to jump in surprise and begin to laugh.  It began to rain and Elmer’s patchwork started to show again.  The elephants decided that they must celebrate this day each year as the day of Elmer’s best joke.  All the elephants would decorate themselves in his honor and have an Elmer’s Day parade.

All about snowmen

The Storytime theme was snowmen.  Ms. Rhonda read “Snowmen All Year” about a boy that wished his snowman would last all year so they could run and play together.  He’s hoping this year’s snow is ‘magic’ snow that will not disappear.  The next book was “Snow Family” where a little boy doing his chores and meets a family of snow children.  The next book was “Snow Happy to be Here!, a slightly silly story of the Snowblatt family of snow-people.  The craft of the day was a snowman complete with scarf.
