Walking With Bob

Summer was always the time to take a vacation, getting away from routine and responsibilities. Vacation meant to vacate, no commitments, no routines, and absolutely forgetting the diet that wasn’t working anyway. That was my lifestyle until that day I chose to change my way of living. Talk about a transformation!

June 12, 2006, I started walking every day. I really started WALKING like never before. I recorded my steps with an internet company called walkertracker.com.  At first I counted almost all of the steps, and then in January, 2012, I started “Brisk Walking” between 20 and 40 minutes every day and do about 8,000 steps which is about two miles. The goal is to do this in less than 20 minutes a mile. This works for me.

If I had my way

If I Had My Way

If I had my way, I wonder what the world would show?

Would there be love to every soul, would I let sinners go?

Would I stop wars, feed hungry men, or simply let them be?

I wonder what I’d really do, if God gave power to me?

I hope I’d always merely show, regardless of the one

Remembering what was done for me, when God gave us His Son

I hope I’d keep the Son with me, let Him show me the way

I wonder what the world would be, if I had my way?

Oh Lord, I will not seek my way, Yours is best for me.

In wisdom let me walk with You, for I can surely see

Selfishness might rule my heart, taking I’d never give

Just give me what You want to, for love’s sake let me live.

Summer Reading at the Van Zandt County Library has three sessions left.  Be There!  About 100 children and adults have attended each of the first four fun days, and adults may have enjoyed them as much as the kids did.  See Facebook, vanzandtlibrary.org or the foyer of the Library for details on the rest of summer

activities. Trinity Valley Electric Co-op is the principle underwriter of Summer Reading again this year.  Their grant provided funds for programs and many of the prizes that were awarded, including the Grand Prize. The Canton Rotary Club gave the main prize for each individual meeting. The Friends of the Library organized and conducted the entire event.
FREEBIE 3rd FRIDAY will begin on July 17.  This is a noontime event once a month sponsored by

Be Still for a Little While

Be still for a little while

And listen to angels sing,

Jesus will come speak to you

And make you like spring.

He’ll say to you, fear not

For I abide with you in power,

Sit quietly for a little while

Feel my joy for just an hour.

Life speeds away so very fast

Quiet moments seldom appear

In place of peace and love

Our hearts hold dred and fear.

So, be still for a little while

Hang on to things from above

Reach out in mercy to someone

For someone needs your love.

Be still and think what you can do

To go an extra helpful mile

To put a smile on another’s face

And be still for a little while.

This Fourth of July, ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” by Van Zandt County Law Enforcement

Melisa Rhodes
Guest columnist

The Fourth of July is one of America’s favorite holidays. And, why not? Families and friends gather to celebrate our country with food, parades, parties, and fireworks.

But there is a very dark side to this great holiday. For many, the celebrations turn from festive to fatal when alcohol-impaired driving crashes occur because someone chose to drive after drinking. In 2013, Forbes magazine named the Independence Day holiday “the most dangerous holiday of the year.”

Summer Reading at the VZC Library

Summer Reading at the Van Zandt County Library at 10 a.m. on June 26, will be ZOOFARI.  Unsure of what that is join us to find out. It will be an hour long and prizes will be available. Story time for toddlers is June 23 and is titled Fishing.

There will be no Summer Reading on July 3, as the library is closed for Independence Day activities around the County.

There are computers available to card holders at the library and they are great if you need information in a hurry.  But there is a whole section of non-fiction books on hundreds of subjects that are informative or just fun.  Look in the Numbers 000-900 for great books to read.
