Ferman Barrentine

1936-2016

Services for Ferman Harris Barrentine, 79, of Canton, were held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Hilliard Funeral Home in Van with Bro. Paul Barrentine and Dr. Billy J. Barrentine officiating.  Visitation was held before the service.  Interment was in Edgewood.

Mr. Barrentine died peacefully July 25, 2016, in Ennis.  He was born Dec. 28, 1936, in Edgewood.  He was born again late in life on March 13, 2013, and shared his faith and testimony with his grandchildren before his death. 

Bennie Erwin

1936-2016

Memorial services for Bennie Gearldean Erwin, 79, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at Bartley Funeral Home with Bro. David Hicks officiating.

Ms. Erwin died July 30, 2016, in Grand Saline. 

She was born Nov. 7, 1936, in Wood County, to Thomas Henry and Mable Pansy Hammond Gresham.  She was raised in Wood County before moving to Grand Saline in 1967.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Grand Saline and had worked for Lone Star Parts since 1994. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Rubin, James and Daniel Gresham; sister, Helen Skinner; and daughter, Patsy Green.

Survivors include son, Thomas Erwin of Grand Saline; daughter, Brenda Scott of Mineola; sister, Nelda Null of Mineola; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Sybil Berry

1924-2016

Memorial services for Sybil Elizabeth Berry, 91, of Canton, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at Crossroads Church in Canton.

Mrs. Berry died Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Canton.

She was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Livingston to Joe and Elizabeth Phillips Glasscock.

She graduated high school in Naples before receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Sam Houston State University. She married Todd Berry on Nov. 26, 1947, and moved to Canton in 1953. She taught school in Canton and Martins Mill for 25 years. She had a passion for collecting antiques, jewelry or any other kind of collectables, as well as a strong love for animals and music. She was also a member of Crossroads Church in Canton.

Ronny Thornburgh

1967-2016

Services for Ronny Gene Thornburgh, 49, of Myrtle Springs, were held Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.  Interment was at Haven of Memories in Canton.

Mr. Thornburgh died Monday July 18, 2016, in Forney.

He was born March 20, 1967, in Canton, to James and Gatha Denton Thornburgh.

He grew up in Myrtle Springs and was in the shop working on tractors and cars from the time he could walk. He could fix just about anything. He was a kind and generous man who enjoyed helping others. He was a strong man with a warm heart. His two greatest loves in life were dirt track racing and working. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Jack Long

1935-2016

Services for Jack Douglas “Doug” Long, 81, of Grand Saline, were held July 24, 2016, at Main Street Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Winskie officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline.

Mr. Long was born May 5, 1935, in Grand Saline to Jack and Winnie Bell Teel Long. 

He died July 19, 2016, in Grand Saline.

Bobby Crump

1931-2016

Graveside services for Bobby Dean Crump, 84, of Emory, were held Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Timpson. Mr. Crump died at his home Sunday, July 17, 2016.

He was born in Timpson Oct. 25, 1931.

Jackie Carter

1948-2016

Graveside services for Jackie L. Carter, 67, of Grand Saline, were held Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Myrtle Springs Cemetery with Bro. Brad Williams officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline.

Mrs. Carter died July 17, 2016 at a Tyler hospital.  She was born Aug. 23, 1948, in Kansas.

Ima Daugherty

1932-2016

Services for Ima Vernell Daugherty, 83, of Wills Point, were held Monday, July 18, 2016, at the Eubank Funeral Chapel in Canton with Bro. Steve Glosup and Pam Daugherty officiating.  Interment was in Haven of Memories.

Mrs. Daugherty died Thursday, July 14, 2018, in Wills Point.  She was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Wills Point where she resided most of her life.  She was one of eight children born to Fred and Bessie Baker. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; two brothers; husband, Johnny F. Daugherty Sr.; and a son, Freddie Daugherty.

She was employed in local sewing factories before retiring.  She loved animals, plants and gardening.  She was baptized in the Baptist faith. 

Henry Thompson

1942-2016

Services for Henry Thompson, 73, of Grand Saline, were held Monday, July 18, 2016, at Bartley Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Winskie officiating.

Graveside services were held at Midlothian Cemetery, Midlothian, with Bro. Roy Brashear officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.

Mr. Thompson died suddenly July 14, 2016, in Quitman.  He was born Nov. 7, 1942, in Ooltewah, Tenn.

Avis Thompson

1928-2016

Avis Loven Thompson, 87, of Grand Saline, died July 13, 2016.  She was born Nov. 17, 1928, in Edgewood.

The family held a memorial service on Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Corinth Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Smith, Bro. Mark Winskie, Bro. Floyd Loven and Bro. Wayne Tunnell officiating.
