Robert Hooks

1929-2016

Funeral services for Robert “Bob”Alex Hooks, of Edgewood, were held Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Cheatham Memorial United Methodist Church in Edgewood. Burial followed at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point.

Mr. Hooks died June 18, 2016, in Wills Point.

He was born in Edgewood on Aug. 18, 1929, to the late Marcus Alexander Hooks and Inez Henrietta Hooks.

He graduated from Edgewood High School and attended Henderson County Jr. College where he played football for a year before transferring to Southern Methodist University in Dallas to be a member of the Mustang football team. He played on the 1951 team which defeated Notre Dame University (ranked #5), 27-20.

Robert Denton

1959-2016

Services for Robert Earl Denton, 56, of Canton, were held Saturday, June 18, 2016, at the Crossroads Church in Canton with Bro. Taylor Robinson officiating under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home.  Interment was in in Haven of Memories.

Mr. Denton died Sunday, June 12, 2016, in Tyler.  He was born Oct. 30, 1959. 

He was a member of Crossroads Church.  He grew up in Keller and enjoyed rodeoing, bull-riding and breaking horses.  He was a truck driver for many years.  He also enjoyed barbecuing and spending time with family.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, Billy Wayne and Reatha Ellen Parsons Denton; brother, Charlie Ray Denton and sister, Teresa Prophit. 

Rita Ellis

A celebration of life for Rita Carol Ellis, 67, of Wills Point, was held June 18, 2016, at the Pondarosa Resort south of Wills Point. 

Arrangements were under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.

She died June 15, 2016, in Tyler.

Margery Johnson

1938-2016

Margery Annette Johnson, age 78, of Emory, died at Senior Suite Care and Rehab June 12, 2016. 

She was born Feb. 9, 1938, in Big Spring. 

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory.

Jesus Lopez

1948-2016

Mass of Christian Burial for Jesus Lopez, 67, of Grand Saline, was held June 18, 2016, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Grand Saline with Father Victor Hernandez officiating.

Burial was in Woodside Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.

Mr. Lopez died June 14, 2016, in Grand Saline. 

He was born Nov. 7, 1948, in Guanajuato, Mexico.

Visitation and Rosary ceremony were June 17 at the funeral home. 

Jacqueline Morgan

1927-2016

Services for Jacqueline Harper Morgan 89, of Canton, were held June 16, 2016, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Dr. David Christine officiating. 

Interment was at Oakland Cemetery.

Mrs. Morgan died June 13, 2016, in Canton.

She was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Macon, Ga., to Frank Reese and Ezelle Aids Harper.

She married her late husband Jimmie Morgan on March 14, 1946. They lived in Carrolton for 37 years before retiring to the Oakland Community in Van Zandt County where they lived for 31 years.

She worked at American Hospital Supply in Grand Prairie for 25 years before retiring in April 1984. Jacqueline loved square dancing, traveling in the RV, caring for grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other kids around the area.

Ida Jones

1928-2016

Ida Virginia Garrison was born Jan.  8, 1928, in Dallas to parents, Charles Allen Garrison and Laura Helen Manigk.

She grew up in Edgewood’s Small Community and later graduated at Woodrow Wilson High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Harold Jones April 7, 1991.

She was vice president of First National Bank in Longview and worked for Citizen’s National Bank in Kilgore for over 30 years before officially retiring.

Mrs. Jones also taught banking and finance at Kilgore Jr. College in the 1980s and 1990s. Her greatest accomplishment and her life’s work was genealogy as she was the president of the Van Zandt County Genealogy Society. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Longview and Terrell.

Evelyn Franklin

1928-2016

Graveside service for Evelyn Louise Franklin, 87, of Canton, formerly of Wills Point, was held June 15, 2016, at Locust Grove Cemetery south of Wills Point with Mr. James Haynes officiating.  

Services were under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.

She died June 12, 2016, in Canton.

She was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Dallas.

Tom Perry

1968-2016

Private services were held for Tom Perry, 48, of Canton, June 12, 2016. 

He died June 8, 2016, in Tyler, at the Hospice of East Texas.  

Mr. Perry was born May 26, 1968, in Memphis, Tenn. to Thomas and Erika Perry.

He worked for 10 years as the animal control officer for the City of Canton. He previously worked as a chef for the Kentucky State Park system and was twice selected as a chef to cook breakfast at the Kentucky Derby.

He loved fishing, hunting, painting vehicles, and his five dogs.  He moved from Tennessee in 2003 and made Canton his home.  He loved to cook and shared his talent by cooking for friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Jennifer Elliott

1981-2016

Services for Jennifer Dawn Elliott, 34, of Canton were held Friday, June 10, 2016, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, with Bro. Steve Glosup officiating. 

Interment was at Haven of Memories in Canton.

Ms. Elliott died June 7, 2016, in Cayuga.

She was born Sept. 26, 1981, in Grand Saline to Hubert Don and Debra Kay Elliott.

She grew up in Canton and graduated from Canton High School in 2001 where she sang in the school choir. She enjoyed laughing, hanging out with friends and listening to music. She had a contagious smile and was loved dearly by all who knew her.

She leaves behind her daughter, Alaina Estes of Canton; parents, Don and Debra Elliott of Canton; step-daughter, Taylor Estes; sister, Monica Roberts of Canton; brother, Jason Ketcherside of Denton; and mother and father-in-law, Fred and Diane Reynolds of Canton.
