Billie Halcomb

1933-2015

Graveside services for Billie Gilliam Halcomb, 81, of Fruitvale, were held Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Creagleville Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Halcomb passed away July 7, 2015, in Grand Saline.  She was born Oct. 24, 1933, in Grand Saline to John Wesley and Vera Lee Savage Gipson.  Most of her life was spent in Van Zandt County, where she worked locally for over 40 years as an LVN. Billie was a member of the Cross Roads Church of Christ.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Troy Gilliam and W. A. Halcomb; one grandson, Jessie Teague; three sisters, Mattie Williams, Peggy Shivers, and Sue Meiners and one brother, John Wesley Gipson Jr.

Vicki Guidry

1955-2015

Services for Vicki Guidry, 60, of Canton, were held Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at Bartley Funeral Home.

Ms. Guidry passed away June 27, 2015, at her home in Canton.  She was born Feb. 7, 1955, in Dallas County to Truman A. and Shirley Don Birdsong Miller.  She spent her childhood in Flower Mound and had lived in Canton since 1993.  Vicki worked in sales and was an avid dog lover.  She enjoyed friends, work and family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Buddy and Shirley Miller; husband, Jarrett Guidry; uncle, Woodrow Tyson and grandparents, Tennie and Haskell Bertram, Delbert Birdsong and William and Leona Miller.

Ruth Turner

1924 – 2105

A memorial service was held for Ruth Smith Turner, 90, of Arlington, at her retirement community, Brookdale – Lake Arlington on Thursday, July 2, 2015.  A second celebration of her life will be held at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at 2 p.m.

Ruth was born on Oc. 21, 1924, to E. E. “Gus” and Jennie Smith in the Pleasant Glade Community and passed away in Arlington on June 24, 2015.  She graduated from Canton High School in 1942 and married Harold Turner on June 12, 1943.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Debi Turner of Arlington; granddaughter, Amanda Turner Alore and her husband Guy Alore of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandson, Dustin Turner of Arlington and sister Jo Prince of Los Angeles, Calif.

Mattie Hawkins

1936-2015

Services for Mattie Hawkins were held Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Hilliard Funeral Home with C.R. Chapman officiating.  A graveside service followed at Frankston City Cemetery. 

Mrs. Hawkins passed away at the age of 79 on June 30, 2015. 

Mattie Lou McGehee Hawkins was born Feb. 17, 1936, in Frankston to the late Walter Lawrence McGehee and Beulah Willingham McGehee.  She had been a resident of Ben Wheeler since 1971 and was a member of Heritage Trails Cowboy Church.  She worked as a restaurant manager for 20 years, and was a talented artist and quilter.

She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Billy Jack McKennon; her second husband, Lewis Hawkins; brother, Louie Darwin McGehee and sister, Linda Kay McGehee.

Darlene Pierce

1952-2015

Darlene Pierce, 62, Canton, passed away June 27, 2015, in Canton.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 2:00 pm at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Canton. Family and friends are encouraged to attend.

She was born Dec. 29, 1952, in Martin’s Mill to the late Ray Stone and Lula Mae Windham Stone. She worked as bookkeeper for an Athen’s Lumber Yard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Pierce.

Cynthia Plumlee

1958-2015

Funeral services for Cynthia Kay “Cindy” Plumlee, 56, of Wills Point, were held Friday, July 3, 2015, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point.  Interment followed at Rock Hill Cemetery near Wills Point.

She passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015, in Dallas.

Cindy was born on Dec. 14, 1958, in Corsicana.
