Interment followed in Woodside Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.

He passed away July 17, 2017, in Mineola.

He was born July 15, 1960 in Mexico.

Memorial services for Robert Olen Goodner, 61, of Broken Bow, Okla. were held Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Glosup and Jeff Gibbs officiating. Mr. Goodner was born April 18, 1956, in Van Zandt County and went to be with our heavenly father July 9, 2017, in Paris.

He grew up in Van Zandt County where he raised his two children, Cassie and Coley, and eventually met the love of his life, Judy Goodner. He went to work for Thomason Trucking of Broken Bow. The Goodner’s made their home there and have spent their years together enjoying nature’s beauty.

Melvin Cory, 94, of Wills Point, passed away on July 10, 2017 in Canton.

He was born on May 10, 1923, in Fort Smith, Ark. to Wesley Cory and Grace Nix.

He was a World War II veteran and was a barber for most of his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Irene Cory.

He is survived by his daughter, Dee and Dave Lutzinger of Wills Point.

Jimmy Edward Garrison

Services for Jimmy Edward Garrison, 79, of Ben Wheeler, were held Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Eubank Funeral Chapel in Canton, with Bro. Mike Roberson officiating. Interment followed in Haven of Memories.

Mr. Garrison passed away Friday, July 14, 2017, in Tyler.

He was born May 8, 1938, in Kiomatia, to Earlene Brock and Fred Garrison. He grew up in Detroit and served eight years in the Army Reserves. He was an avid golfer until his health failed. When he was a young man, he enjoyed racing boats and won many trophies. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Christian by faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Martha Ann Garrison; sister, Joann Morris; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dogs, Sam and Skippy.

Baby Shoemaker was born sleeping in the arms of the angels July 7, 2017, in Dallas.

He is survived by his mother, April Nicole Fincher; father, Tyler Ryan Shoemaker; grandparents, Jennifer Fincher, Todd Fincher, Melissa Tate and Robert Shoemaker; great-grandparents, Sue and John Fincher, Ginger Chaney, Mike Miles, Donald Langford and Allyene Shoemaker.

Funeral services for Helen R. Nelson, 89, of Haskell, formerly of Canton, were held Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Holly Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Nelson went to be with the Lord July 4, 2017, at her home.

She was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Frederick, Okla. to the late Grady Mann and Mittie Leona Nixon Mann.

She graduated high school from Carrolton High School. She married Joe Nelson, April 20, 1946, in Dallas. The Nelsons were involved in many business entities throughout their marriage, including Nelson Brothers, Nelson Concrete and WesTex Sand & Gravel.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton. She was very talented and enjoyed making handmade quilts. She was a long-time member of the Van Zandt County Extension Club.

Mr. Johnson passed away June 27, 2017, at his home.

He was born Aug. 28, 1931, in Hockley County to Lonnie Monroe and Helen Burke Johnson. He was the eldest of 10 children. He began his working career at the Johnson Salvage Yard of Amarillo. At the age of 16 he built his first race car and competed many years at the Amarillo Speed Bowl, Flying Saucer and many area tracks. He went to work for Borden Dairy Inc. in 1957 and retired as a production manager after 36 years. He was an active member of Cross Roads Church in Canton.

Services for Arleta Still, 91, of Canton, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Canton with Pastor Mark Huston officiating.

 Interment will be in Haven of Memories. Mrs. Still passed away July 6, 2017, in Quitman.

She was born June 25, 1926, in Clinton, Iowa to Philip A. and Beatrice Lucille Smith Slocumb.

She grew up in Quincy, Ill. and moved to Dallas with her family in 1956. She worked at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas for many years. After she retired, she moved to Canton. A devout Lutheran her whole life, she was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Canton where she taught the Women’s Bible Study and the Christian Leadership with LWML for many years. She was an avid reader and gifted quilter and embroiderer.

Memorial services for Michael Wayne Echols, 72, of Malakoff, were held Monday, July 3, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Bro. C.R. Chapman officiating. Interment followed in Haven of Memories. Mr. Echols passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, in Tyler.

He was born Feb. 18, 1945, in Corpus Christi to Robert Wayne Echols and Betty Lou Warren.

He grew up in Gainesville. He worked as a police officer for 34 years. He spent 28 years at Canton Police Department, with 10 years as Chief of Police. He was a man of his word and was proud to serve the City of Canton.

He enjoyed collecting model trains, working in his yard and visiting with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betty Echols; great-granddaughter, Ceirra Morman; and sister-in-law, Connie Willis.
