Services for Rea Jo Norrell, 66, of Canton, were held Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Bro. Adam Key officiating. Interment was in Old Bethel Cemetery.

Mrs. Norrell went to be with the Lord Feb. 5, 2016, in Canton.

She was born Dec. 9, 1949, in Sturgeon Bay, Wis, to Orlin R. Nye and Alice Rielly.

She was a member of the Old Bethel Baptist Church, Texas Star Quilting Guild, DAR, and the Red Hat Society.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Norrell; son and daughter-in-law, Dirk and Ashlee Norrell; daughter, Gayla and Patrick Lavery; five grandchildren; sisters, Sue and Gerald Brauer, Judie and David Strandberg, Lynn Nye, Lora Hartwig, and Cherie Nye; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment was Tuesday morning at Myrtle Springs Cemetery south of Wills Point.

Mr. Buckley died Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, in Wills Point.

He was born on May 5, 1940, in Wills Point.

Mrs. Warwick was born Oct. 7, 1938, in Dallas.

Services for Veta Leon McCord Burns, 87, of Canton, were held Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at the Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Bro. Steve Glosup officiating. 

Burial was in Haven of Memories Memorial Park. 

Mrs. Burns died Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at her home in Canton. 

She was born Nov. 27, 1928, in the High Community to Howell Elmo and Ottie Marie Norman McCord. 

She was a member of the Tundra Baptist Church.  She worked for Van Zandt County in various positions and retired as district court clerk.  She enjoyed traveling and having her family at her home. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Buck Burns; infant son, Jimmy Steven Burns; parents; brother, Kenneth Ray McCord; and her sister, Mattie Belle Kinney.

Services for Thomas Gene Shivers, 84, of Ben Wheeler, were held Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Canton with Father Selvaraj Sinnappan officiating.

Mr. Shivers died Jan. 26, 2016, in Ben Wheeler.

He was born April 4, 1931, in Grand Saline to James Thomas and Dora Chambers Shivers.

Thomas was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. He was married 65 years to his precious wife, Martha. They had 65 wonderful years together and called each other “Honey” all through the years. They worked together on the farm raising cows. He retired in 1986 from being a mail carrier in the city of Dallas. He enjoyed fishing, camping and Bob Wills Western Swing.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers and sisters, Clyde, Garland, J.T., Ruth and Tommie.

She was born Feb. 18, 1930, in Yantis.

Richard Frederick Hanes, 67, of Mineola, died on Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, in Mineola.

He was born Monday, Jan. 26, 1948, in Dallas to the late Frank and Joyce Hanes.

He was a member of Lake Country Bible Church in Mineola. He was a devout Christian, loving father and grandfather, devoted husband, teacher, mentor and friend to many.  

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Laura Hanes of Mineola; son, Matthew Hanes and wife Michelle of Conroe; daughter, Laura Werchan of Plano; brother, Franklin Patrick Hanes and wife Ellen of Garland; four grandchildren, Christopher Hanes, Stephen Hanes, Samantha Hanes, Ivan Werchan; and niece, Josey Hanes. \

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, and were officiated by the Rev. Craig Lacy. Interment followed at New Hope Cemetery in Mineola.

Services for Marion Purcell Kirkpatrick, 71, of Ben Wheeler, were held Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at Flatwood Community Worship Center in Edom with Pastor Mike Kirkpatrick officiating.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick died Jan. 29, 2016, at her home in Ben Wheeler. 

She was born Dec. 24, 1944, in Owensboro, Ky.

She is preceded in death by her father, Louis F. Purcell; mother, Joyce Hawes; stepfather, Tommy Hawes; infant son, Benjamin David Kirkpatrick; and infant grandson, Eli Michael Kirkpatrick.

She is survived by her husband, Mike Kirkpatrick of Ben Wheeler; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Christi Kirkpatrick of Fort Worth; grandson, Jackson Kirkpatrick of Fort Worth; three sisters, Nina Wyatt of Owensboro, Ky., Shirley Riggsbee of Gaithersburg, Md. and  Betty Ross of Oklahoma City, Okla. and brother, Marvin Purcell of Philpot, Ky.

Marion R. Cates died Jan. 23, 2016, surrounded by family at Mabank Nursing Home.

Mrs. Cates was born Jan. 7, 1926. 

She was a member of the Colfax Baptist Church Eastern Star-Ben Wheeler Chapter.

She spent many years nursing in Van and Grand Saline.  She taught CNA certification after retirement in Van Zandt County.

She is preceded in death by her husband, H.G. Cates; two sons, John and David; 12 siblings and; one great granddaughter, Mari Quinn.

She is survived by a son, B.E. Cheatham of Oakwood; two daughters, Alice Hays of Hawthorn, N.J. and Susie Armstrong of Colfax; eight grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces of nephews.

Her radiant smile, sparking blue eyes and quick wit will truly be missed by all.
