William Adams 1953-2018

 

 

Memorial services for William “Willie” Adams, 64, Grand Saline, were held Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018 at Silver Lake Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Adams officiating. He passed away on Jan. 22, 2018 in Tyler.

He was born Nov. 18, 1953 in Grand Saline to the late Neeley Mayfield Adams and Agnes Arizona Armstrong Adams.

He was a lifelong resident of Grand Saline and worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lindsay Neal Adams; sisters, Willie Joyce Wilson, Kathy Sue Owles, and Wanda Sharp; brother, Cleo Adams; and nephews, Mitchell Copeland and Ronald Willingham.

Paul Huffines 1933-2018

 

 

Services for Paul Huffines was held Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at Hilliard Funeral Home. He was laid to rest at Corinth Cemetery in Canton.

Paul Milton Huffines was born March 26, 1933 in Allen. He had been a resident of Van since 1973. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the VFW in Grand Saline. He worked for Unocal as a corrosion technician for over 22 years. He had many hobbies and was full of information.  He passed away at the age of 84 on Jan. 23, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Ellis Huffines and Tessie Jenetta Yeatts Huffines; and his great-grandson, Brenton Lane Huffines.

Kathy Conway 1952-2018

 

Services for Kathy Ann Conway, 65, of Canton were held Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018 at Canton Church of Christ. Graveside services were held at Rock Hill Cemetery in Yantis. She passed away on Jan. 19, 2018 in Tyler.

She was born on Nov. 8, 1952 in Sulphur Springs to G.W. and Freda Nell Gilbreath Banks.

She was a member of the Canton Church of Christ. She graduated from Texas A&M and was an educator for many years in the Canton school system.

She is preceded in death by her father, G.W. Banks; Monty Banks; and Martha Fowler.

Hope Whitaker 1926-2018

 

 

Services for Hope Anderson Whitaker, 91, of Canton, were held Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at the Eubank Funeral Home in Canton. Interment was in Haven of Memories.

She passed away Jan. 27, 2018 in Wills Point. She was born March 28, 1926 in Canton to Earl John and Chloes Sides Anderson. She grew up in Van Zandt County.

She graduated from Texas Woman's University and began her teaching career in East Texas. She then moved to Long Beach, Calif.

During WWII, she worked with the Defense Department to pay for her college classes. She received her Masters from UCLA and also was a member of the first class of women to receive an Outdoor Education Certification.

Wanda Lou Hays 1931-2018

 

 

Wanda Lou Hays passed away on Jan. 2, 2018 in Tyler at the age of 86. She was born on June 7, 1931 in Brownsboro to Wesley Robert Cox and Edith Thompson Cox.

She was raised in the area where she met and married Charles Virble Hays on Dec. 26, 1946. They moved to the Dallas area where they raised their four boys and she retired from a career with Hartford Insurance Company. 

In the early 1980s, they returned to live in Ben Wheeler where they were active members of First Baptist Church, Ben Wheeler.

Robert Reese Sr. 1922-2018

 

Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life and home-going of Robert Allen Reese, Sr at 3 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 13  at Lakeside Baptist Church, Canton. He met his Savior face to face on Jan. 5, 2018 at the age of 95.

Known as Dad to several, Granddad by many, and as simply Bob by his beloved wife, Joey, his service will be a time of joy, of memories, and a testimony of a life well spent and of a man much beloved for his twinkling blue eyes of humor, his integrity, and his work ethic.

Linda Ann Abbott passed away Dec. 18, 2017, as a result of an auto accident. She was born Sept. 10, 1961, in Memphis, Tenn. to Richard and Blye Abbott.

She lived most of her adult life in the Dallas area, however, for the last several years, she made Canton her home.

She loved playing pool. She was a member of the APA Leagues for many years in Dallas. She never met a stranger and she loved socializing. She always had a smile on her face.She is preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind many friends who loved her dearly. She will be missed

Curtis Smallwood 1935-2017

 Services for Curtis Leon Smallwood, 82, of Canton were held Sunday Dec. 10, 2017 at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Bro. Steve Glosup officiating. Interment was in Holly Springs Cemetery in Martin’s Mill. He passed away on Dec. 7, 2017 in Athens, TX.

He was born on June 20, 1935 in Kaufman to William Britton and Marcella Theodocia Smallwood.

He was a Mason for 56 years. He loved to sing and play the guitar. He enjoyed coaching little league and was a Longhorn fan. He supported the Martin’s Mill school district by serving many years on the school board and attending basketball games.

Terry Lawley

1957-2017

 

A celebration of life for Terry Joe Lawley, 60, was held Thursday at the Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.

He passed away Dec. 2, 2017 in McKinney. He was born Aug. 4, 1957 in Ft. Sill, Okla. to Haskell T. and Juanda Jo McElhaney Lawley.

He grew up an Army brat and later served in both the US Army and the US Coast Guard. In 1992 he met his wife, Judy, in Tulsa, Okla. and they have been together ever since.

Rose Mary Willis

Rose Mary Willis

1940-2017

 

A memorial celebration of life was held for Rose Mary Willis Dec. 11, 2017, at Cox Cemetery.

She was born May 1, 1940, in Canton, Texas.  She graduated from Canton High School and attended Drawns Business College in Dallas. 

She was a current resident of Grand Prairie, formerly living in Canton.  She retired from Texas Instruments-Raytheon after 35 years.  She loved to collect antiques, paint with oils, work cross-word puzzles, work outdoors in her yard, and listen to music from the fifties. She loved her daughters and her grandchildren, always putting them first.
