1945-2016

 

Joe Lynn Stricklin, 72, of Canton went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus, April 13, 2016, at the VA Hospital in Dallas, after a battle with cancer. 

He was born on March 21, 1945, the only son of Jodie and Maude (Paris) Stricklin, of Martins Mill. 

Mr. Stricklin served his country honorably as an infantryman in Vietnam and received several medals for his service, including the Army Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart. 

After his time in the service, he worked as a manager at GNC for several years, then at a dialysis facility in Tyler and eventually left his work to take care of his widowed father until his passing.

Services for Florence Lavern Warren, 89, of Canton, were held April 13, 2016, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.

Interment was at Moore-Head Melton Cemetery in Eustace.

Mrs. Warren was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Big Rock to Gordie and Essie Stegall Easley.

She died April 10, 2016, in Canton.

She grew up in the Big Rock Community and attended school in Eustace. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mabank as well as the Eastern Stars.

She worked in the insurance industry for 35 years and also owned a lawn service with her sister. She enjoyed mowing, yard work and traveling. Every winter, she would travel to Florida and stay until spring.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gordie and Essie Easley; husband, Arnold Warren; daughter, Barbara Wilkerson; sisters, Mary Ann Head, Edwina Coots and Patsy Lay.

Betty Lynn Frazier,  83, of Emory, died April 9, 2016, at home in the presence of her family.  She was born Dec. 5, 1982, in Rockwall.

A memorial service was held for Michele Hughes April 8, 2016, at Hilliard Funeral Home.

Michele Diane Hymowitz Hughes was born Nov. 13, 1943, in Brooklyn, N.Y. and died at the age of 72 on April 5, 2016 in Canton. 

She had been a resident of Canton for a year, formerly living in Tyler.  She worked as a CNA for many years, and never met a stranger.  She was known for her big personality and caring heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Rose Wilk Hymowitz; son, Adam Hughes; sister, Maxine Kelley; and brother, Morty Hymowitz.

Services for Maerene Crane Lambert, 86, of Grand Saline, are were held April 10, 2016, at Main Street Baptist Church with Bro. David Crain officiating. 

Interment will follow in Haven of Memories, Canton.
Ms. Lambert died April 7, 2016, at a Tyler hospital.

She was born Aug. 29, 1929, in Canton to Reubin Alfard and Lottie Mae Smith Crane. She graduated from Wills Point High School in 1948.  She spent many years in Irving before moving to Grand Saline 39 years ago. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, the Gleaners Sunday School class; Fun After 55 and the Red Hat Society.

Funeral services for Jimmy Don Newman, 52, of Dallas, formerly of Edgewood, were held Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with the Rev. Gary Newman officiating.  Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewood.

Mr. Newman died early Friday morning, April 8, 2016, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas surrounded by his family.

Cheryl Nations Thompson, 69, of Grand Saline, died April 6, 2016, at a Tyler hospital. 

Mrs. Thompson was born Dec. 10, 1946, in Grand Saline to Relman and Erlene Null Nations.  She spent all of her life in Grand Saline where she was a homemaker and a member of Riverside Mission Church. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandchildren, Brandi LaRoe, Blake Strickland, Bruce Strickland and Colton LaRoe.

Memorial service for Barbara Ann Lee, 80, of Edgewood, formerly of Gun Barrel City, was held April 9, 2016 at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point.

She died Saturday morning, April 2, 2016, in Edgewood.

Mrs. Lee was born Sept, 8, 1935, in Independence, Kan., the daughter of Elton Thomas and Anna Mae Slaughter Thomas. 

She was raised in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Texas Woman’s University in Denton and her master’s degree from Sul Ross University in Alpine. 

She was married to Delmos Hickmott for 17 years.  She was a partner in a gallery in Athens and had worked at several colleges in the pottery labs.  She was also employed by the Old City Park in Dallas, where she was a master potter, retiring in 2008.

Wanda Lynn Wilson, 86, of Dallas, died March 31, 2016, in Plano.

Mrs. Wilson was born Nov. 4, 1929, in the Colfax Community near Ben Wheeler to Earl Curtis and Ruby Clovis White Clower.

She was a 1947 graduate of Van High School and was employed at AT&T where she served as a group manager and worked there for 41 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Rudolph Clower; and sister, Janice Clower Bynum.

Kara Broyles, 41, of Carrollton, died March 26, 2016.

Ms. Broyles was born July 9, 1974, in Dallas to parents, Bette Ralls and Max Broyles.

She graduated from R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton.

She had a creative spirit that was expressed through her artwork. 

She enjoyed painting furniture and also pictures and could find the beauty of life in everything that she saw or created.  Her love of life and creativity shone through her personality.  She will be forever missed by her family.

She is survived by her parents, Bette Ralls and Bob Ralls and Max and Linda Broyles; her four children, Kendra, Tyler, Taylor and Katelynn; her grandchildren, Sadie and Cora; her sisters, Kelly Broyles, Kim Carson and Jenna Broyles and her stepbrother, Jamie Lemley.

Funeral services and cremation will be in Carrollton.
